We're delighted to see that the pomegranate season has arrived in Victoria. The sunny orchards along the Murray are now picking these jewel-like fruits, promising a delightful burst of flavour and health benefits as well. The VFMA's very own Orange Lady, Gabrielle Robb drives all the way from Red Cliffs, a 550km trip each way. After a short supply break in May, she'll be back at Elwood on Saturday and Flemington this Sunday and will have pomegranates available. We can hear her fans cheering!

Packed with antioxidants and vitamins, pomegranates are a perfect addition to your diet. But what can you do with this exquisite fruit? Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. Juicy Delights: Squeeze the vibrant ruby arils to make fresh pomegranate juice, either on its own or mixed with other fruits for a delightful blend.
  2. Sweet and Savoury: Sprinkle the arils over salads, yoghurt, or cereal for a refreshing crunch. Alternatively, incorporate them into your baking endeavours for a tangy twist. And nothing says north Africa like the ruby pomegranate arils in a tagine.
  3. Exotic Sauces: Create tantalizing sauces by reducing pomegranate juice with honey, spices, and herbs. These make perfect companions for grilled meats or as a vibrant dip.
  4. Indulgent Desserts: Add pomegranate arils as a garnish to cakes, tarts, or ice cream. The burst of tartness will elevate your desserts to a new level of deliciousness.
So, grab some fresh pomegranates and let your culinary creativity shine! Gabrielle will also have limes, raw dried pistachios, Imperial mandarins, navel oranges and ruby grapefruit this weekend.

See you at the markets!
